Exciting news for the in the , which would turn one block of Golden Gate Ave into much needed green space: goldengategreenway.org

Having long been stalled by the Fire Department, there's now a tentative agreement that would allow it to be from 6am-6pm! This could be approved at the ISCOTT meeting next Thurs, 3/23, 9am: sfmta.com/calendar/iscott-meet

I know @fauvescraper has been helping to make this a reality for a long time. Let's go!

Oh, man. This comic — from 1993 — could NOT be more relevant today. As usual, Bill Watterson hits it out of the park.

"'We wanted to use materials that we could get in the ground immediately,' said SFMTA’s Jamie Parks, who was also at the event, of the multi-year project." *links to article about the project from 2019*

"Parks, as seen in the picture below, was standing in front of planters... Planters could also 'get in the ground immediately'..."

This is a masterclass in puncturing bureaucratic doublespeak.

As excited as I am to finally see a protected bike lane in FiDi, I wholeheartedly agree with Roger at Streetsblog SF that the protection is vastly insufficient and should, if we're being honest, embarrass everyone involved. sf.streetsblog.org/2023/03/15/

I used to think that as single-family homes were replaced by dense multifamily infill housing, NIMBYism would decrease. I was wrong. Affluence, and homeownership (vs renting), predict NIMBYism regardless of building typology. missionlocal.org/2023/03/gruel

The city just removed “local traffic only” signs from Shotwell. It now says “slow streets” twice like on Page. Still have the “road closed to through traffic” for now.

"I don't want to get burglarized. Do I think this supplemental is going to stop a burglary from happening? No." This from someone whose nonprofit has been burglarized twice in 6 months. "They need to be civilianized... They are too expensive to be doing jobs like traffic enforcement, responding to homelessness..." Asks for disarmament.

also I would like to say I have been a recent victim of ~property crime~ (my fancy ebike that I miss very much was stolen), and in order to get that covered by my insurance I did have to call 911 and have SFPD come out and take a report. fun fact: I have never seen this report! I was told via an automated email that there was a "backlog" of requests for police reports. it's been... probably close to a year? that's not "understaffing," that's ineptitude

I always wonder why BART doesn’t let a neighbor come in and garden these pots. Glen Park station.

A.S. Baldwin got Sutro’s will reversed and came into possession of 700 acres, developing the houses west of the current park and if not for Matty Brown would presumably have developed the whole mountain.

Adolph Sutro, a German immigrant and landowner, planted the eucalyptus here for Arbor Day with some kids, encouraged by early Sierra Club member Joaquin Miller. Sutro also got a tax break for planting them.

The Yelamu and Ramaytush were a regenerative culture. They knew every plant and how to regenerate it.

7 year old seeing this map asks: “When they built the buildings… did they kill the plants?” 😢
