Interesting little debate in this @MLNow piece. Realtor wants freedom to convert retail (goods) spaces to restaurants. He blames vacancies on City policy limiting those conversions. Merchants association prez says that policy is not the issue and is needed to keep retail from being pushed out.

Jane Jacobs would've probably sided with the merchants association. In Death & Life of Great American Cities she warns "cataclysmic money" can erase neighborhood diversity.
